I reblog this everytime it’s on my dash. A lot of people think an anxiety attack is always hyperventilating and freaking out. I don’t know how it is for everybody but I can have anxiety attacks where I just feel like I’m not breathing enough even though I am and start getting sweaty, heart races and sudden urge to escape no matter what I’m doing. Most don’t think that’s an “attack” but until you’ve felt it you don’t know how claustrophobic it actually makes you feel.

I’ve experienced all of these to varying degrees. Actually, I’m having a mild one as I type this @_@ What with the feelings of running away and difficulty breathing. This is actually a really good reference list for recognizing the symptoms.

Okay seriously. Fuck whoever decided women shaving their armpits needed to be a thing. I JUST HAD TO PLUCK OUT FIVE INGROWN HAIRS. MY ARMPITS ARE ON FUCKING FIRE. And I’m pretty sure the red open sores aren’t helping achieve the goal shaving is supposed to.

The pangolin is the only mammal on the planet that bears actual scales.
It is also the only carnivore that does not have teeth.
Plus, it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Just look at it.
It rolls itself into a ball to protect itself from predators, like an armadillo; and it invades large, often infesting insect nests with an incredibly long pink tongue, like an anteater.
But they’re not related to any of those things. In fact, they are so unique, scientists put them in their own biological order: Pholidota.
It’s adorable.

But there’s a problem. It’s also two other things:
1) One of the least scientifically-researched mammals on earth. Therefore, it is one of the least known by the public.
Nobody knows what a pangolin is.

2) It is one of the most commonly poached animals in the world.

Prized for its scales, which are fabled to promote menstruation and lactation, treat rheumatism and arthritis, and reduce swelling, the pangolin is captured en masse in Southeast Asia and China. Now, there are even ridiculous claims that their scales can cure cancer.

Fact: their scales are made of keratin, which is the same exact thing that your fingernails are made of.

And, like your fingernails, pangolin scale has absolutely no medicinal benefit.

Nevertheless, in 2011, about 60,000 pangolins were stolen from the wild… in Vietnam alone. TRAFFIC, the anti-illicit trade organization, estimates that this is only 10% of the entire Asian industry.

Only a few are ever rescued, and if they are, the trauma of their experience actually kills them after a few weeks. Pangolins become easily overstressed, and literally cannot be held in captivity. Those few who do survive cannot reproduce.

The Chinese and Sunda Pangolins are on the Endangered list. The Indian and Indonesian Pangolins are Near Threatened. But the industry has not slowed down.
The only pangolin species that is not severely poached is, surprisingly, the African Pangolin. But as Asian species begin to become more and more rare, conservationists are worried that Africa will be the next main supplier.

Before this happens, you should know about the Pangolin.

Well, the case is still going, but that’s the direction it sounds like its starting to go in, yeah e_e Last I heard Archie and Penders were basically at a stalemate and Sega’s being dragged into the middle.

Oh, and every character Penders has created has been written out of the comic. And reprints of the Knuckles series has been stopped.

It’s a bad page. In fact, it is a TERRIBLE page for numerous, insurmountable, cumulative reasons but you know what, I didn’t write it. And it’s not bad because I didn’t write it, it’s bad for other reasons many of which I helped contribute to. This page single-handedly encapsulates what was wrong with the Sonic comic both verbally, artistically and editorially (yeah, I said it) back in the day.

I was told to draw Sally slapping Sonic, so that’s what I did. I was a freelance artist. I get paid to interpret scripts via art. If the script tells you to draw a character like they are blacking out and slappin’ the taste out of someone’s mama’s mouth then you draw that character slapping the taste out of someone’s mama’s mouth and then some.

I remember putting my all into this page and trying to really convey a lot of force into that slap. And its weird too, ‘cause outside of the electrical force coming off of it — that’s all I drew in that panel. Given my penchant for overdoing everything when I first started, that nothing is was shown there is a very small and glorious miracle.

I guess I must’ve succeeded in spades with that scene because somehow the entire Sonic comic community cracked itself in half, launched itself into the sun and then collapsed into itself like a black hole because I still see the colored version of this image along with Sally’s crazy-cat-lady-style tirade get posted up everywhere like the fandom equivalent of a scarlet letter. But you know what?

I wear that scarlet letter proudly because, regardless of the motives behind it, regardless of the fervor it caused and regardless of the rancor it still incites Archie Sonic fans with to this day — that, in the end, is what art (bad or good which is subjective depending on the eye of the beholder) is supposed to do. It’ll make you care about the characters. And the results of this page either made many fans either realize they’d stopped caring altogether OR made other fans realize that things needed to change and soon. So I guess that’s exactly what this page, warts and diarrhea and abnormally giant head-eating Sally and all accomplished and still does.

(OR some just kept reading like nothing ever happened — and that is just fine too.)

The perspective is weird, Sonic’s arm turns to rubber in one panel for whatever reason, Sally’s boobs are pronounced and looking like they’re about to lactate like there’s no tomorrow — SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS — but, for me, the focal point always keeps going back to that slap. That’s the key focus on this page and, for better or worse, it did what it set out to do and then some.

Take a look at these. I want you to stop a take a moment to really get a good look at them. See the poorly drawn and childish scribblings on an old beat up cardboard box?

I drew those. Back when I was, oh, 9? 10? This was the original box that I used to keep all of my Sonic comics in. I’ve kept it all these years. I still use it, even though I have better storage containers for my comics now. I hold onto it because it represents precious and important moments from my childhood.

Even now. At 27 years old. I’m still collecting that comic. I grew up with all of those characters. This box that I used to carry around and sit beside as I read those comics over and over to the point I had memorized each of the stories by heart.

Notice anything particular about this box?

Geoffrey St. John, Julie-Su and Archimedes are all represented on it. These were characters I grew up with. They were my friends. All of these characters were there for me when I was lonely, when I was happy, when I was angry. No matter what happened in the real world I could always rely on them to be there.

And now they’re being ripped away from the Sonic franchise.

This was my childhood.

The dogs loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog (Calypso) decided the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn’t acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Halfway through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company’s web site,

This product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey’s, and they claim that “It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won’t eat it.”

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman’s Garden Supply and other garden supply stores contains a lethal ingredient called ‘Theobromine’. It is lethal to dogs and cats. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker’s chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.
